What Gets Checked During a Safety Inspection?

During your Vehicle Safety Inspection, we will check the following items:

  • Fuel Systems
  • Speedometer & Odometer
  • Exhaust Systems
  • Horns & Warning Devices
  • Body & Chassis
  • Suspension Components
  • Steering
  • Braking Systems
  • Tires & Wheels
  • Lighting & Electrical Systems
  • Glazing (glass)
  • Mirrors
  • Windshield Washer Fluid
  • Defroster & Wipers

Most passenger vehicles and lights trucks weighing 11,000 pounds or less must also pass a visual anti-tampering check as part of the inspection. For the most current information on PA safety inspection requirements, visit the official website for the Department of Motor Vehicles.

What Happens if My Vehicle Doesn’t Pass Inspection?

If your vehicle fails inspection, one of our trained advisers will be available to answer any questions, explain the problem and how to correct it, and re-inspect your vehicle within 30 Days.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Website:

“Your re-inspection will be free, as long as you have it done within 30 days at the same place that conducted the initial inspection. If your car still doesn't pass the inspection, and you can show that you have spent at least $150 on emissions-related repairs, you may be eligible for a one-year waiver. In some cases, you may have to spend more if the repair is the only reasonable way to address the problem, such as replacing a catalytic converter. You must obtain an emissions sticker or a waiver from a certified inspection station and pass a safety inspection before a permanent safety inspection sticker can be applied to your vehicle.”
